IP Mirror Newsletter - March 2009
IP Mirror was a proud Silver Sponsor of ICANN 34th Meeting, Mexico City
 |
ICANN’s 34th International Public Meeting is the first of three in for the year 2009. Held from 1st – 6th March 2009 to conduct policy development and outreach. It was hosted by ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), the Mexican Internet Association (AMIPCI), the Network Information Center (NIC) Mexico, and the Internet Society (ISOC) Mexico.
Being a Silver Sponsor, IP Mirror had a great booth setup which attracted many interests and partnerships from the global internet community. Several key issues and themes also evolved over the course of the meeting, but probably the most newsworthy issue discussed was the decision to launch the new gTLD application.
Currently, new registrations are limited to a set of gTLDs that had been approved by ICANN, such as .com, .net, .org, etc but with the new program, organizations will be able to apply to reserve their own gTLD. For example, Microsoft could apply for .MSN, Google for .GOOGLE, or New York City for .NYC. ICANN is currently aiming to have applications for new gTLDs to be received in December 2009 at the earliest or in the first quarter of 2010.

What’s new? What’s now? Its .NU!
 |
We are delighted to announce that IP Mirror is now a .NU Registrar! .NU is the country code top-level domain for Niue, an island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean. It is commonly known as the “Rock of Polynesia”. Natives of the island call it “The Rock”.
You’ve got a choice: you can make do with leftover name under .com, or you can jump into something truly new. .NU domain has been out-innovating the established .com domain for many years and is still the only real competitor to the staid .SE (Sweden) domains since the Swedish word “NU” means “NOW” in English.
IP Mirror will be accepting .NU new applications in April 2009.
