Internet Keyword

 

Internet Keywords were initiated by CNNIC with the objective of making it even easier for internet users to locate websites by matching a keyword with an internet address (URL).  With keywords, users no longer have to type in the full URL (e.g. http://www…..) to reach a website.   Instead, they only need to key in the registered keyword into the brower’s address bar to be directed to the corresponding URL. 

Internet Keywords can be registered in Latin characters (e.g. mobile) and/or Chinese characters (e.g. 手机), making your website even more easily accessible to a larger audience, anywhere in the world.

Registration Policy

  1. Registration is open to all companies and individuals
  2. Prior to the keyword registration, you must already have an active website/URL that the Internet Keyword will be redirected to
  3. The Internet Keyword to be registered must show relevance to the content of the URL to be redirected. For example, the Internet Keyword “手机” for “mobile phone” must redirect to a URL with webpage contents that are related to “mobile phone”
  4. Internet Keyword can be composed of Chinese characters, alphabets (a-z), numeric (0-9) or symbols (-,!), and cannot exceed 31 characters (each constituting element is regarded as one character)
  5. An applicant is not allowed to register Internet Keywords in bad faith and which they have no legitimate right to use
  6. The applicant for a keyword must not infringe the rules set under “Internet Keyword Registration Rules” of article 5 in http://www.cnnic.cn/html/Dir/2003/11/07/1228.htm, summarized as follows:
    • Those who are against the basic principles prescribed in the Constitution
    • Those who jeopardize national security, leak state secrets, intend to overturn the government, or disrupt of state integrity
    • Those who harm national honor and national interests
    • Those who instigate hostility or discrimination between different nationalities, or disrupt the national solidarity
    • Those who violate the state religion policies or propagate cult and feudal superstition
    • Those spread rumors, disturb public order or disrupt social stability
    • Those who spread pornography, obscenity, gambling, violence, homicide, terror or instigate crimes
    • Those who insult, libel against others and infringe other people’s legal rights and interests
    • Other contents prohibited in laws, rules and administrative regulations
  7. Registration is not immediate. Approval of the registration of Internet Keywords is subject to audit by CNNIC within 3 working days.

 

Renewal Policy

The renewal principle of Internet Keyword is within 15 days after expiration date.  If the Keyword is not renewed within this period, the Internet Keyword will be purged from the database and made available for registration to the public.

 

Transfer Policy between Registrars

  1. The registrant for Platinum Internet Keyword is required to submit written transfer to the Registrar. Please downloaddownload the form for the written transfer. Other Internet Keyword transfer can be done by submitting directly transfer password to IP Mirror
  2. Transfers of Internet Keyword between registrars are done via transfer passwords. The registrant must get the transfer password from the losing registrar. There will be a one year renewal fee for every successful transfer. (except for Internet Keyword of platinum general word)
  3. Internet Keyword cannot be transferred under the following situations:
    • Within 60 days after the registration date of the Internet Keyword
    • Within 15 days after the Internet Keyword is being renewed
    • The Internet Keyword is in arrears of registration fee
    • The principal identity of the Internet Keyword holder is not defined or in dispute
    • The Internet Keyword is being handled by judiciary, arbitration body and dispute resolution institution
    • The transfer application violates other rules or notifications released by the Registry.
  4. If the losing registrar does not provide transfer password of the Internet Keyword without any reasons, the registrant can fax a complaint letter to CNNIC and copy the same fax to IP Mirror regarding this matter. IP Mirror will assist in obtaining the password

 

Reserved Internet Keywords

In order to safeguard the interests of the state and of the public, protect the legitimate rights and interests of the citizens and corporations, guarantee the regular order of registration, CNNIC has reserved a list of Internet Keyword prohibited or restricted to the public. The Reserved Internet Keywords include:

  1. The names, codes or English spellings of the states (regions) listed in ISO3166
  2. Names that are temporarily not open to be registered due to technical reasons
  3. The full names and formal abbreviations of our governments and departments names of the state leaders; and names concerning national defense and military
  4. The full names and formal abbreviations of the regional administration above the level of countries;
  5. Names of colleges and universities in China
  6. Some names of such media as the press and the radio or TV stations
  7. World cultural and natural heritage in China

(No. 1 & 2 above are names forbidden to be registered; No. 3- 7 can only be registered as Internet Keyword by those organizations that are entitled to use them.)

 

 

How to activate Internet Keywords?

1.   Signup for the Internet Keyword Service

2.   Approval of the registration of Internet Keywords is subject to audit by CNNIC within 3 working days. 

3.   Download and Install the ‘Internet Keyword Client-End Software’, which will enable your browser to utilise keywords

4.   You can now access your website by entering the keyword into your Internet Explorer browser address bar:

 How do i uninstall the Internet Keyword Client-End Software?

  1. On your PC, Go to “Control Panel”
  2. Click on “Add or Remove Programs”
  3. Select to remove “Chinese Navigation” program

To apply for  Reserved Internet Keywords,  please do the following:

1.  Submit the following documents to IP Mirror via fax: +65-62220210 or email: sales (at) ipmirror (dot) com

  • A copy of a duly completed Application Form for Internet Keyword
  • A copy of business registration certificate
  • If the Internet Keyword is same with the applicant organization’s trade mark, a photocopy of the trade mark registration certificate is required.

2.  CNNIC will review the application within 3 working days after receiving the documents.
