General Availability for .XXX domain names opens on 7 Dec 2011

The .XXX extension is a top-level domain that is developed and sponsored by the International Foundation for Online Responsibility (IFFOR) with the aim of providing voluntary self-regulation for members of the adult entertainment industry.   The .XXX launch is in three phases:

 

 

Sunrise A & B : 7th Sept to 27th Oct 2011, 12 noon (GMT +8) (closed)

Sunrise A
  • For members of the Sponsored Community with verifable trademark rights AND/OR owners of exact matching strings in other IANA TLDs
Sunrise B
  • For non-members of the Sponsored Community with verifable trademark rights who wish to block their name in the .XXX sTLD.  
  • Trademark owners who register their .XXX domain name during Sunrise Phase B need only pay a one-off registration fee.   Registrations during all other phases will be subject to recurring yearly registration fees.
  • Applicable for domain names consisting of Latin characters and numbers (not applicable for IDNs).    The domain name sought must correspond to the entire text of a textual registered trademark, or correspond to the complete textual component of a graphical or compound registered trademark, provided that such textual component as a whole or in all parts is not disclaimed or otherwise excluded from full rights conferred by the registration or commercial impression conveyed by the mark.  
  • Registrants are advised to study the .xxx country rules to ensure that submissions are in accordance with Registry requirements.   No refunds will be offered for rejected applications.

  • Pre-registrations for Sunrise B has been open since 15 June 2011. 
  • This phase is followed by a quiet period.   

 

Landrush :  8th to 24th Nov 2011, 12 noon (GMT +8) (closed)

  • For members of the Sponsored Community only.  No qualification requirements are needed. 
  • A non-refundable application fee applies for each new registration during this phase.
  • At the end of this Phase, competing applications will go into a mini-auction.  This phase is followed by a quiet period.

 

General Availability:  from 7 Dec 2011, 00:00 hrs (GMT +8) onwards

  • Registrations begin on first come, first served basis. 
  • Domain names may be registered for terms of 1 to 10 years, and renewals are available from 1 year onwards.
  • Sponsored Community Members get regular resolving (active) names. 
  • Non-members of the Sponsored Community get "Non-resolving" names.

.XXX General Availability FAQ

1. When does General Availability phase start?
A. From 7 December 2011 00:00hrs (GMT +8) onwards.

2. Who can register .xxx under General Availability?
A. Any entity and individuals can register domains on a first come first served basis. Be reminded that only domains of members of the sponsored community will resolve.

3. Do I have to renew the domain every year?
A. All domains registered under General Availability will be subjected to renewal, regardless of whether Registrant is a member of the sponsored community or not.

4. Can I register for multiple years?
A. Yes, you can register the domain for up to 10 years, but the registration term of a domain name may not exceed 10 years at any given time.

5. Do you accept the pre-registration order? From when?
A. IP Mirror accepts the pre-registration order from 28 November, 09:00hrs to 5 December 2011, 15:00hrs (GMT+8).  Pre-registration orders collected will be submitted to Registry when General Availability opens on 7 December 2011, 00:00hrs (GMT+8).

6. Can I use .xxx for my website?
A. If you are a member of the sponsored community, you can resolve it in DNS upon the completion of membership application process.

7. Who can be a member of sponsored community?
A. Member of the Sponsored Community is defined as individuals, business, entities, and organizations that fit any one of the following descriptions:

8. What do I have to do to be a member of sponsored community?
A.  Applicant must complete the Membership Application Process. The Membership Application Process is as follows:

  • ICM sends the person/company an introduction email that includes a validation link to the Registrant Contact email address provided with their application.
  • The person/company clicks on the validation link in the ICM email and is directed to the ICM Membership Application.
  • The person/company fills out the ICM Membership Application.
  • As a part of ICM's Membership Application, the person has to provide the Address and Phone Number.
  • As a part of ICM's Membership Application, the person has to attest to the following:

(a) provide correct birth date information;
(b) agree to ICM's Registry-Registrant Agreement;
(c) attest to being a member of the Sponsored Community.
 

  •  ICM will call the phone number provided during the Membership Application.
  •  In that phone call, ICM will provide the person with a PIN # (real time) and the applicant will input the PIN# in the designated area in the Membership Application process.
  • Once the person completes the Membership Application, ICM provides the registrar a Membership Token thus allowing all of the .xxx domain names associated with that email account to resolve.


9. I registered a domain without the membership, can I resolve the domain later?
A. Yes, you can resolve the domain once you complete the membership application process.

10. Is my information going to be reflecting on Whois?
A. Yes, all domains registered under General Availability will show the information on Whois.  (If the domains are registered under Sunrise B, Whois will display registry’s information only).

11. Can we use SafestWhois (whois protect) service for .XXX?
A. Yes, please tick the box to subscribe SafestWhois service when you place the order.  Be reminded that an additional fee will be occurred and the domains subscribed to SafestWhois would not be resolved.
