On 20th June 2011, ICANN (Internet Corporation of Assigned Names & Numbers), the organization overseeing domain names on the Internet approved the new generic top level domain (gTLD) programme.   With this most exciting milestone crossed, brand owners, community leaders, interest groups and business enterprises will now be able to secure unique identifiers on the World-Wide-Web, and take advantage of this opportunity for flexible and global branding,  gain ownership of registry policies, improve search engine ranking, and heighten namespace security - among a myriad of other benefits.
