TIME-TABLE FOR LAUNCH

Montenegro, formerly part of Serbia and Montenegro, gained independence on June 3, 2006. It will take over the management and transition of the former Yugoslavia .YU domain names.

The new extension is now .ME.

May 1 15:00 UTC To May 6 17:00 UTC	Montenegrin Sunrise: ( Application Closed ) Montenegrin companies or citizens, who own a current registered trademark or service mark applied for prior to June 28, 2006 are eligible to apply for a second-level domain name during the Montenegrin Sunrise period. Third-level domain names are open to Montenegrin entities only. Third-level domains are not subject to the Sunrise process, and trademarks are not required to register them. Third-level domains may be registered by Montenegrin entities on a first-come, first-served basis beginning on May 1.
May 6 17:00 UTC To May 20 17:00 UTC	General Sunrise: ( Application Closed ) Owners of any current registered trademark or service mark applied for prior to June 28, 2006 are eligible to apply for a second-level domain name during the Sunrise period. Applicants from around the world (including Montenegrin entities) may apply in this period. Applicants should apply through IP Mirror.

Second Level .ME domain is now open for registration to any business entities or individuals worldwide.

General Registration Policies

1. Term:

Sunrise domain names may be registered for a minimum of five (5) years, and a maximum of ten (10) years. (Read more about sunrise rules...)
Landrush domain names may be registered for a minimum of two (2) years, and a maximum of ten (10) years. (Read more about landrush rules...)
Open Registration domain names may be registered for a minimum of two (2) years, and a maximum of ten (10) years.

2. Domain name length:

.ME domain names must be at least 3 characters and a maximum 63 characters in length, excluding the extension.

3. Allowable characters:

Only the Latin alphabet letters a-z, digits, and hyphens are currently accepted in a domain name. Domain names cannot begin or end with hyphens. Internationalized domain names (IDNs) may be offered in the future, but in the meantime the registry does not currently accept letters with accent marks, Cyrillic characters, etc. Domain names with hyphens in the third and fourth positions are prohibited.

Reserved and Premium Names

A list of .Reserved Names has been held back for government and registry use. These names are not available for registration by the public.

A list of Premium Names has been held back, and these names are not currently available for registration. The Registry plans to make these names available in manner(s) to be determined at a later time.
