Sunrise 1 (SR1): Governmental Reserved Names


  • Governments or relevant bodies may “activate” (i.e. register) domains from the Reserved Names list compiled in Pre-Sunrise. Activations must be procured through .ASIA Accredited Registrars.
  • Note that SR1 commences together with SR2a

Sunrise 2 (SR2): Registered Marks

 

Sunrise 2a (SR2a): Early Bird Sunrise

  • Trademark application cut off date is 16 March 2004 (SR2a cut-off date)
  • Trademark must be issued and valid upon domain registration application
  • Applicant must have demonstrable usage of Mark (in the class if applicable) registered
  • Registrant must be owner, co-owner or assignee of Mark
  • Documentary evidence is not mandatorily required, but required upon request

All Sunrise fees in the different phase are payable to the registry and NOT refundable.

Sunrise 2b (SR2b): General Registered Marks

  • Mark must be applied for before December 6, 2006 (SR2b cut-off date)
  • Mark must be issued and valid upon domain registration application
  • Registrant must be owner, co-owner or assignee of Mark
  • Documentary evidence is not mandatorily required, but required upon request.

Sunrise 2c (SR2c): Extended Protection

  • Mark must be eligible for SR2a or SR2b (application for domain in SR2a/b is not a pre-requisite)
  • Domain Name Applied For may be constituted with Mark plus significant words from the class
  • description in the Nice Classification system (http://www.wipo.int/classifications/nivilo/nice/)
    E.g. Mark for “XYZ” in Nice Class 1: “Chemicals” may apply for “XYZChemicals.Asia
  • If trademark registered in certain countries do not have NICE agreement or do not use the NICE classification, it is allow to include words and phrases contained in or relating to the description of goods and services of a registered mark.
  • Combination of 2 or more registered marks is allowed. Registered Marks must be applied for on or before 6 December 2006. The Registered Marks must be incorporated in full (exact match or acceptable match). Example, the owner of 2 registered marks: "ABC" and "XYZ" is entitled to apply "abcxyz.asia", "abc-xyz.asia", "xyxabc.asia" or "xyz-abc.asia". Further combination from the nice class (if under class 1 "chemicals") can apply for "abcxyzchemical.asia"
  • Accept standard Romanization and transliterations of non-latin based languages (or scripts) eg. Pinyin for Chinese Language and Romanji for Japanese language
  • Registered Mark containing an existing TLD as suffix. Eg. "Abc.org" may apply for "abc.asia"
  • 2-character Registered Marks. If a Registered Mark "AB" is held by the applicant, they may apply "a-b.asia"

Sunrise 3 (SR3): Registered Entity Names

  • Domain Name Applied For must correspond with the Registered Entity Name(i.e. company name / organization name) However, initials and short forms of an Entity is allowed if they are officially used. Verification agent may request documentation demonstrating the official use of the applied domain name. For example, "Andrew, Ben and Carol Ltd" may apply "ABC.asia", or "Northern Transport Limited" may apply "nortrans.asia".
  • Omission of locality indications. Example, "ABC Beijing Company Limited" may apply "abc.asia".
  • Accept standard Romanization and transliterations of non-latin based languages (or scripts) eg. Pinyin for Chinese Language and Romanji for Japanese language.
  • The juristic entity must be registered on or before December 6, 2006 (SR3 Cut-Off Date)
  • Documentary evidence (e.g. certificate of incorporation, etc.) is required and must be submitted
  • Submitted documents will be posted publicly (Note that SR3 begins together with SR2b & SR2c)

All Sunrise fees in the different phase are payable to the registry and NOT refundable.

 Eligible String for Domain

The following exceptions are allowed:

  • Spaces, punctuations and special chars (omitted or replaced by hyphen)
  • Accented and combined characters (replaced by base character)
  • Mark type or entity type identifiers, e.g. TM, LTD. (may be omitted)
  • Special consideration for “Asia” (may be omitted in favor of .Asia TLD)
  • Transliteration, romanization or variant forms are not accepted

Allocation of domains by Auction Process 

For SR2, SR3 and Landrush, applications will be considered to be received at the same time. If there is more than one successfully verified application within a particular sub-phase, the domain will go into “Auction Process”. Domains with only 1 successfully verified application will NOT be auctioned. Auction will be mainly conducted online. Before an Auction, information of other bidders for the domain will be provided to each bidder (i.e. successfully verified applicant) More information will follow soon.
