What is Internet Keyword?
Internet Keywords is initiated by CNNIC (China Internet Network Information Center). It is a newly emerged technique and a convenient way for user to browse a website by establishing a corresponding relation between Internet Keyword and an URL. Internet Keyword can be registered in Latin and Chinese characters.
Why Internet Keyword?
The objective of Internet Keyword is to make it easier for navigation on the web for Chinese users by matching a keyword with an internet address (URL). By typing a keyword in the address bar (in Chinese characters), the internet user is automatically redirected to the corresponding URL. The advantage of the Internet Keyword is mainly to improve the access to the company on the web and users need not type browser address such as http://www.....

All you need to do is to download the Internet Keyword client-end software and you can access any website that has their keyword registered.
How does Internet Keyword work?
When you register Internet Keyword service, you need to specify the URL where the Internet keyword points to. URL is known as the website address such as http://www.... Once the Internet Keyword service takes effect in the system, you can visit your website by installing the Internet Keyword client-end software on your browser. Click "Run" to install the program. Next, just input the Internet Keyword you want to access into your IE browser.
To uninstall "Internet Keyword client-end software", please do the following steps:
Go to "Control Panel"
Click on "Add or Remove Programs"
Select to remove "Chinese Navigation" program
Registration Policy
Registration is opened to companies as well as individuals.
Prior to the keyword registration, you must already have an active website/URL that the Internet Keyword will be redirected to
The Internet Keyword to be registered must show relevance to the content of the URL to be redirected. For example, the Internet Keyword "手机" for "mobile phone" must redirect to an URL whose web pages or contents that are related to "mobile phone"
Internet Keyword can be composed of Chinese characters, alphabets (a-z), numeric (0-9) or symbols (-,!), and cannot exceed 31 characters (each constituting element is regarded as one character)
An applicant is not allowed to register Internet Keywords in bad faith in which they have no legitimate right to use while others have
The applicant for a keyword must not infringe the rules set under "Internet Keyword Registration Rules" of article 5 in http://www.cnnic.cn/html/Dir/2003/11/07/1228.htm, which is summarized as follows:
Those who are against the basic principles prescribed in the Constitution
Those who jeopardize national security, leak state secrets, intend to overturn the government, or disrupt of state integrity
Those who harm national honor and national interests
Those who instigate hostility or discrimination between different nationalities, or disrupt the national solidarity
Those who violate the state religion policies or propagate cult and feudal superstition
Those spread rumors, disturb public order or disrupt social stability
Those who spread pornography, obscenity, gambling, violence, homicide, terror or instigate crimes
Those who insult, libel against others and infringe other people's legal rights and interests
Other contents prohibited in laws, rules and administrative regulations
Registration is not immediate. Approval of the registration of Internet Keywords is subjected to audit by CNNIC within 3 working days.

Renewal Policy
The renewal principle of Internet Keyword is within 15 days after expiration date. If the Keyword is not renewed within this period, the Internet Keyword will be purged from the database and made available for registration to the public.
Transfer Policy between Registrars
The registrant for Platinum Internet Keyword is required to submit written transfer to the Registrar. Please download the form for the written transfer. Other Internet Keyword transfer can be done by submitting directly transfer password to IP Mirror
Transfers of Internet Keyword between registrars are done via transfer passwords. The registrant must get the transfer password from the losing registrar. There will be a one year renewal fee for every successful transfer. (except for Internet Keyword of platinum general word)
Internet Keyword cannot be transferred under the following situations:
Within 60 days after the registration date of the Internet Keyword
Within 15 days after the Internet Keyword is being renewed
The Internet Keyword is in arrears of registration fee
The principal identity of the Internet Keyword holder is not defined or in dispute
The Internet Keyword is being handled by judiciary, arbitration body and dispute resolution institution
The transfer application violates other rules or notifications released by the Registry.
If the losing registrar does not provide transfer password of the Internet Keyword without any reasons, the registrant can fax a complaint letter to CNNIC and copy the same fax to IP Mirror regarding this matter. IP Mirror will assist in obtaining the password
About Reserved Internet Keyword
In order to safeguard the interests of the state and of the public, protect the legitimate rights and interests of the citizens and corporations, guarantee the regular order of registration, CNNIC has reserved a list of Internet Keyword prohibited or restricted to the public. The reserved Internet Keyword includes:
The names, codes or English spellings of the states (regions) listed in ISO3166
Names that are temporarily not open to be registered due to technical reasons
The full names and formal abbreviations of our governments and departments names of the state leaders; and names concerning national defense and military
The full names and formal abbreviations of the regional administration above the level of countries;
Names of colleges and universities in China
Some names of such media as the press and the radio or TV stations
World cultural and natural heritage in China
(No. 1 & 2 above are names forbidden to be registered; No. 3- 7 can only be registered as Internet Keyword by those organizations that are entitled to use them.)

A copy of business registration certificate
If the Internet Keyword is same with the applicant organization's trade mark, a photo copy of the trade mark registration certificate is required.
CNNIC will review the application within 3 working days after receiving the documents.
